Tewantin State School

Hello everyone. Once again, it is my
opportunity to sit in “the big chair” as Acting Principal.
As you are no doubt aware, Kerrod and I are sharing the
role of Acting Principal until next year when Mr Neil
Jenkins takes the helm.
ATHLETICS
CARNIVAL - A big congratulation to all concerned for
a very successful Athletics Carnival. As usual our P.E.
Teacher, Mr Bandera has run a well organised and fun sports
program for our students. Congratulations to all students
for their participation and fine sportsmanship during the
carnivals. Congratulations to the students in Laguna as
their magnificent efforts in winning the sports carnivals
aggregate.
The P&C as usual supported the
carnivals by providing a very popular refreshment stand. At
their last meeting of the P&C they have decided that
with the funds raised at the sports and discos to purchase
four new tents to provide shelter for students at the
sports or other outdoor functions. Thank you and well
done!
YELLOW DAY - In
conjunction with the Tewantin-Noosaville Safety House
Committee, Tewantin State School is celebrating Thursday,
September 10 as YELLOW DAY. Yellow Day will be used to
highlight the locations of local safety houses and remind
children how they can use these safe havens in an
emergency. This year we have had 2 incidents, involving
children in the local area where safety houses have been
activated.
On Yellow Day we will be encouraging
students to wear yellow instead of their regular uniform,
for a gold coin donation. The money raised will be used to
support the Tewantin-Noosaville Safety House Committee.
SCHOOL ARRIVAL
- Could I ask you to assist us with a couple of issues that
are causing us concern. Firstly there are children arriving
at school from 7am. At this time the school cannot provide
any supervision at this time and these early arrivals are
at risk. We would ask all children to arrive no earlier
than 8.00am with the ideal time being 8.30am.
STAFF CAR PARK
- Secondly we are concerned with some parents using the
staff car park as a pick up and drop off point. This is an
extremely dangerous practice as many children are passing
the entrance of the car park both before and after school.
Please consider the safety of all our students and don’t
use the staff car park for this purpose. Thank you for your
cooperation.
PREP OPEN DAYS
– Children and families are welcome to attend our Prep Open
Days to meet staff and enjoy some fun activities on
Tuesday, 15 September and Wednesday 28 October. Time -
9.30am to 11.00am. (These two Open Days are additional to
the Prep / Year 1 information morning to be held on
Wednesday, 9 September in the school’s Activity Hall
commencing at 9.30am). For information regarding Open Days
and enrolments please contact Kerrod Parsons – Deputy
Principal.
