LITTER FREE LUNCH WEEK

A huge ‘thank you’ to all of the wonderful parents who helped with our Litter Free Lunch Week. It was exciting to see the creative ways that children brought their lunch to school.

The variety of containers and food types was amazing. Although we did not achieve a whole class being litter free for the four days, we did see a reduction in the amount of litter that was put into the general waste bins, and that was reflected in the amount of wheelie bins that the cleaners put out for the local council collection.

We are very fortunate to have such environmentally aware students at the school. When talking to some of our children about the reasons why we were having the litter free lunches it was amazing to see them demonstrate their depth of knowledge about land fill, the impact our rubbish is having on our local environment and how it will affect our future if we do not start acting now. We are lucky to have children who are so socially aware and prepared to be actively involved.

Another thank you needs to go to the class teachers for their efforts in talking to the children about the litter free lunches and why the school is looking at its waste management practices. Thank you also to those teachers who lead by example and brought their own litter free lunches. We are looking forward to do more litter free lunches in 4th Term.
