Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome back to Term 2! Mind you, last
week was so busy it feels like we’ve been back for a month!
Isn’t it lovely to have some cooler weather at long last?
Our uniform shop has an attractive selection of jumpers and
jackets if your children need some warm clothing.
P&C MEETING
We had a great roll up at our last
meeting and hope to do even better this coming Tuesday
evening at 7 PM in the Exec Centre. These meetings are
enjoyable, informative and short so don’t miss it!
CROSS COUNTRY FUN RUN
It was wonderful to see so many parents
at our cross country last Thursday! The weather was perfect
and the sports field was a spectacle with the brightly
coloured tents and the students in their community colours.
Both the Junior and Middle School races went without a
hitch thanks to some outstanding planning and preparation
by our staff, particularly Shane Will, our Junior School PE
teacher, and our two deputies, John and Mark. Our P&C
secretary, Noel Saffery, did a great job of organising
Golden Circle’s sponsorship of the event and thanks to all
of you for supporting your children in raising funds for
our college. A great day was had by all!
ANZAC
I’m sure everyone who attended either of
our ANZAC ceremonies would have found them very moving. The
programs were conducted very capably by our school leaders
and the guest speaker, Captain Brent Hall from the Armed
Forces, made a lasting impression on our students with his
story about the courage of our youngest ANZAC hero who died
at Gallipoli when he was only 14! This story was also the
subject of an original composition by teachers Fiona Young
and Erica Stone which was sung beautifully by our Middle
School vocal group and our Junior School choir brought a
tear to more than one eye with their rendition of ‘We are
Australian’. Thank you to our talented music staff, Erica
Stone and Tim Burns, for preparing our young singers so
capably and also to Judy White from our Middle School for
her deeply moving tribute.
NAPLAN
The National Assessment Program for
Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is to be held on the 12th,
13th and 14th of May with all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and
9 being assessed. The results of these tests provide
important information about how all Australian students are
performing in literacy and numeracy. Parents of students in
these year levels will receive detailed information about
these tests in the near future and individual student
reports will be sent home later in the year. Our teachers
have worked hard preparing their classes for NAPLAN so rest
assured that your children will be well prepared for these
tests.
Junior School Class Photos:
Class photographs are scheduled for this
term. Parents will receive information regarding photo
packages in the next few weeks. The dates set for the
photographs are: 16, 17 and 18 June.
Public Art in Schools Project:
Over the last two terms, students have
been working with Art teacher Mr Short, Head of Curriculum
Ms Elder and our Artist in Residence Mr Manning to design a
significant art work for our College. The design concept
has been sent to the project steering committee for final
approval. On approval, work will begin on construction. The
planned piece of artwork will be located in the Café
precinct. It will comprise of seating and shade for our
students and resemble elements from our rainforest habitat.
We are very excited about this upcoming event and look
forward to the work taking shape over the next few
months.
PARENT INTERVIEWS
Once again you, our parents, have shown
your support for our College by the exceptional level of
attendance and positive feedback from both our Junior and
Middle School parent/teacher interviews. Of course it’s
your children who benefit when home and school work so well
together and we really value your involvement in our
College. Thank you!
Regards
Julie, Robyn and Leasa
