A Message from the Principal
STATE WINNER!
I am so happy to be able to report to you
that our school is the State Winner of the Schools First
National Australia Bank Awards. The School’s First judges
found our SCIPS community partnership between Maroochydore
State School and Sunny Kids to be the best partnership for
2009. As state winners our partnership will go to the
national judging in Melbourne.
I congratulate all staff and our partners
Sunny Kids for the effort that they provide to ensure that
this program is a success.
BUS ZONE
Quick action has resulted from my meeting
with a Traffic Officer from the Sunshine Coast Regional
Council. The school bus that departs from Primary School
Court now has a designated signed parking bay.
I ask all parents to observe the No
Parking in this area between 2:15pm and 2:45pm.
In the interests of safety I ask that the
signs be observed.
COMMENCEMENT TIMES
I remind all parents that it is vitally
important to have all children at school by 8:30am for the
start of their school day.
It is important that all children be
ready to engage in activities when the day starts so that
their education is not suffering. I understand that
emergencies occur from time to time, however we are having
a group of students who continue to arrive late and their
entry to class disrupts others who are already working.
NATIONAL LITERACY AND NUMERACY
PARTNERSHIP
The Federal Government has provided
funding for the employment of Literacy Coaches across
Queensland. Our school has been fortunate to have had a
coach appointed to our school for one day per week.
Anne Dale, a highly experienced teacher,
has been appointed to Kawana State College, Caloundra and
Maroochydore. Your children may come home from school and
be talking about a new teacher who has been working with
them in their classroom.
FILM MAKERS
A group of our senior students will be
working with staff from Warner Bros Movies. The intention
of this activity is to produce a two – three minute film to
celebrate Q150 Film Festival. A free evening of film will
be screened in Cotton Tree Park on Friday, 06 November, at
6:30pm. Our P&C Association have been invited to man
the food and refreshment stalls on the night. If you would
like a night out on Friday can I suggest that you visit
Cotton Tree Park.
PEOPLE WHO HELP US
In recent weeks we have had a visit from
a local vet and also a visit from the R.S.P.C.A.. The vet
spoke about the ways in which children can care for our
pets. This most informative session provided a great deal
of information for our students. The RSPCA visitor brought
a dog who was very popular. Hayley Said, “the lady told us
how to meet dogs safely.”
Four steps for meeting a dog
1. heck with mum or dad before meeting any new dogs or
people.
2. Ask the owner before you pat the dog.
3. Meet the dog by letting him sniff the back of your
hand.
4. Pat the dog gently on the chest.
We thank the teachers for organising
these extra curricular activities they certainly created a
great deal of interest for our students. .
BOOK FAIR
Planning is well advanced for our BOOK
FAIR SAFARI which will be launched on:
Tuesday, 24 November starting at
2:30pm.
Free tea and coffee will be provided to
parents who join us on this special day. Sale of books will
continue on Wednesday and Thursday with special opening
times after school on these days.
FIRE SAFETY
Our Year One students had their second
visit from the Maroochydore Emergency Services.
David from Year One said that he really
liked seeing the big truck spraying its fire hoses on the
back oval.
Ethan liked having a turn at holding the
very big fire hose. Ethan also told me that if there is a
fire at home and the room is filled with smoke that you
should drop to the floor, get down low and go, go, go. It
is important that when you get out that you stay out!
BOOK PACKS 2010
I thank the families who have already
returned their booklist requirements for next year.
Swan News Agency has asked if we can have all orders to
school by Friday, 04 December.
