FROM THE PRINCIPAL
WELCOME BACK TO TERM 4
Term 4 heralds the last term of schooling
for our Year 12 students and it is a period of great
intensity as they complete the requirements for their Qld
Certificate of Education and celebrate their graduation
from school with the Formal and the Graduation
Ceremony.
Term 4 also contains another important
ceremony in the life of our school. Awards Night, held on
Wednesday 28 October, beginning at 7:00pm, celebrates the
efforts, successes, achievements and excellence of our
students in their academic, cultural, vocational and
sporting endeavours over the past year. The quality and
extent of student achievements that will be celebrated at
Awards Night clearly reflects the high quality of education
provided at our school.
More information is provided about Awards
Night later in this newsletter.
THE TERM AHEAD
While Term 4 is a very rewarding time for
celebrating the achievements of our students and school, it
is also an intense time of planning and preparation for the
next school year. The School Leadership Team is reviewing
the progress of the school in achieving the objectives of
the 2009 Annual Operational Plan as well as developing the
2010 Annual Operational Plan and Budget. This process is
closely monitored by the School Council. Timetable planning
for 2010 is also well under way. In 2010, Wednesday is the
flexible learning day for Year 11 and Thursday is the
flexible learning day for Year 12 students.
'SENIOR EDUCATION AND TRAINING
PLANS AND THE SCHOOL BASED TRAINEESHIPS EVENING
During Term 3, all Year 10 students
completed their Senior Education and Training Plans. In
this process, many students indicated an intention to
pursue a School Based Traineeship in Year 11 and 12. An
information and orientation evening for students interested
in a School Based Traineeship will be held on Wednesday 21
October. Students and at least one parent must attend this evening to be eligible to
participate in a School Based Traineeship in 2010. Year 10
students have been provided with invitations to take home.
For any queries regarding this evening or School Based
Traineeships, please phone Larney Bishop on 5409 7353.

later in this Newsletter.
CAMBODIAN HUMANITARIAN TRIP
Nine students and three teachers from
Maroochydore State High School have just returned from a
successful humanitarian trip to Cambodia.
The group, led by teachers Rick Rexa,
Amanda Johnson and Jenny O’Connor, spent two weeks working
in an orphanage and school in Cambodia and donated
over $4,000 that they raised in our local community to
improve facilities for the orphans.
The orphanage near Phnom Penh is run by
“Save the Children Cambodia for Development” organisation.
The students helped in the construction and repair of
buildings, taught English to the disadvantaged children
attending the school and learned a lot about the culture of
one of our Asian neighbours.
This visit to Cambodia followed on from
our school’s three successful humanitarian visits to India
in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Maroochydore High has established a
strong relationship with a mission school at Manvi in
southern India, which supports the disadvantaged and
dispossessed Dalit people. Even though the 2008 trip was
cancelled due to terrorism concerns, we still provided
financial support and will make another donation this
year.
The trip to Cambodia and the ongoing
support of the Dalit people in India continues the school’s
proud tradition of humanitarian work and helping to educate
our students as global citizens.
Thanks also to James Gilbert-Wood for
coordinating the fundraising for the project and Di
Hungerford for much behind the scenes organization and
support.
Look out for a full report and photos in
a forth coming newsletter. A Gala Presentation Evening
about the trip will be held on 26th October.
