Staffing
Update
Mrs McCallum, one of our Deputy
Principals, has returned from leave and we thank Mrs
Henderson for her time and effort in the role of
Acting Deputy Principal during Mrs McCallum’s
absence.
Our best wishes go to Mrs Hall, our
Head of Special Education, who will be on leave for
the final four weeks of the 2008 school year. We
welcome Ms Afrodite Totten from Tallebudgera State
School to Coomera as she takes up this important role
until the end of the year.
Congratulations and best wishes
also to Ms Ona who has been appointed Deputy
Principal at Helensvale State School last Friday. Ms
Ona was a teacher in our Special Education Program
before undertaking the Acting Deputy Principal
position at Helensvale.
We are currently working with
District Office staff to finalise our initial
staffing arrangements for the beginning of the 2009
school year. Staffing is linked to our student
enrolment but at this stage, we do not anticipate
significant changes to our current staffing
arrangements.
“Dream a Better World”
Despite early afternoon storms and
ongoing rain, our eighth “Dream A Better World” Film
Festival went off very well on Sunday night. Jack and
Jaimee-Leigh did a wonderful job hosting the evening
and our students who assisted as ushers and helpers
were terrific.
A huge thank you to the students,
staff, family and friends of Coomera State School for
their assistance and support for our Film Festival
again this year. Special thanks to this year’s
Coordinators Mrs Underwood and Mrs Henderson and
their families who put in a tremendous amount of time
and effort planning and organizing this very
successful school event. Congratulations
everyone!
Internet Banking Available Soon
at Coomera State School
Our school will soon be introducing
Internet Banking as a new payment method for
parents/caregivers to assist with the payment of
fees, activities and excursions. This will greatly
increase the flexibility for everyone to make
payments associated with school activities and should
reduce the need to come to the school and line up at
the Finance window in order to make payments.
Parents/caregivers will be provided with specific
information to be used when making payments. Further
details will be provided as this new process is
introduced.
Bank of the Future
Competition
The Commonwealth Bank branch at
Oxenford will be one of the first branches in
Australia to have a completely new branch experience
for customers as part of a new redesign program. The
local community has been invited to share in the
festivities in early December. As part of the
celebrations they are asking students to artistically
create their own interpretation of a “Bank of the
Future”.
Students have until Friday the 28th
November to submit their entry into the marked box at
Commonwealth Bank Oxenford (Shop 7/8 Cnr Tamborine
–Oxenford Rd & Old Pacific Highway). Entries need
to be clearly marked with the student’s name, age,
school and class.
The Prize: Two finalists will
receive $50 each which will be deposited into the
student’s Youthsaver account. The grand prize winner
will have their entry framed and displayed in the new
Commonwealth Bank branch at Oxenford, in addition to
$150 deposited into a Youthsaver account.
For further details please contact
the Commonwealth Bank Oxenford.
2009 Student Leaders
Our selection process for many of
our Student Leader positions for 2009 is now well
underway and I am very impressed with the number of
our Year 6 students who have submitted their resume
for the School Captain, House Captain and Peer
Mediator Leader positions. Shortlisting and student
voting will be undertaken shortly and I look forward
to announcing our Student Leaders for 2009 at our
Senior Award Day on 10 December.
Semester 2 Student Reports
Staff will complete the initial
preparation of Semester 2 Student Reports within the
next week. Student Reports will be issued on Tuesday
9 December. We are aware that a few of our families
may not be here at school in the final week of term.
Should you require your child’s report before 9
December, please advise your child’s class teacher so
that arrangements can be made to try and organise
reports before departure.
2009 Planning
As we approach the end of the 2008
school year, we need to reflect on the many
achievements of our great school during this year and
also to plan our school priorities, programs and
budget for 2009. To assist with these planning
processes, I greatly value the input of parents,
staff and students. A brief survey will be provided
to our families this week to enable them to provide
information and suggestions for the ongoing
development of our school. Your assistance in
returning this survey to your child’s class teacher
by next Friday 28 November would be greatly
appreciated. This information, and that provided by
staff and students, will be given consideration as
part of our 2009 planning processes as we continue
our focus on providing the very best educational
opportunities for our students.
How many students at Coomera in
2009?
If you know of any families who
intend enrolling their children at our school from
the beginning of next year, please advise them to
contact our school office (Ph: 5519 6333) so
enrolment information can be provided and interviews
organised.
